NEW DELHI: Telecom services provider Bharti Airtel on Thursday rolled out an episode-based fraud monitoring solution which is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, to proactively identify and block potential scam calls. India Today Tech has learnt that it works for OTT apps as well as communication platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook by safeguarding them from potential threats. If a customer attempts to access a site that has been IDd as malicious by Airtel’s security system, the page simply won’t load and the user is instead taken to a page that describes the threat.

How Airtel’s Fake Call Detection Solution Works Here’s How It Works:

In a statement, Airtel said it has rolled out a multi-layer fraud prevention system in line with its customer first policy to ensure the strongest possible checks against the activities of sophisticated fraudsters who have found new ways to ebay scams and cheat customers of their hard-earned money. The telco uses its threat detection service, Domain Gateway, which performs domain filtering on all platforms, that intercepts and inspects Domain Name System (DNS) queries to determine whether it matches against a known blocklist or meets a prior-defined security policy.

The safe links are displayed as a safe website, and it blocks the link that is identified as malicious across the devices.

The company notes the growing risk of Internet fraud as digital services have become an integral part of people’s lives. Be it straightforward OTP fraud, or fraud call, online or offline, a simple act can involve you in an intricate scam that affects millions across the world. It’s in light of this increasing threat that the telecom operator has rolled out its new preventive measure.

According to the telecom operator, the service is functional at the moment and operates in real time on all of its platforms including emails, browsers, SMS, and over-the-top (OTT) apps which include WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram, It is said to be preloaded and auto-activated for all Airtel mobile and broadband subscribers at no additional cost.

The new fraud detection solution is currently live in the Haryana circle and Airtel will be implementing it across India soon, informs the company.

This follows the recent roll-out of Airtel’s network-based AI solution to its entire network for making calls hassle-free, with the first roll-out being conducted in India for the English language. It is capable of automatically knowing and spotting spam calls and SMSes before they ring your smartphone, and sends out a notification to the user. Now, users in India will be able to receive these alert notifications in 10 regional languages, including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, in addition to the English version.
